Substance Use Disorder Counseling

Individualized Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Outpatient Counseling focuses on reducing or stopping substance use. Blue Heron substance abuse counselors will address the areas of impaired functioning in an individual’s life which may be a result of, or contribute to, an individual’s substance use. Driven by a client-centered focus, individuals can expect to be introduced to coping strategies and tools, from a substance abuse counselor, which can assist them in their goals of reducing or stopping substance use.

Mental Health Counseling

Individualized Outpatient Counseling for Mental Health focuses on improving quality of life through client-centered one-on-one counseling. Individuals have the potential to learn to cope with stressors, how to deal with negative thoughts and feelings, and make positive changes in their lives.

Mental Health Counseling provides an individual with the opportunity to change self-defeating behaviors and habits, and improve communication and interpersonal skills. Outpatient Mental Health Counseling can help people who are overwhelmed by difficult events in their lives and provide relief from mental illness.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

What is EMDR?
EMDR is a non-invasive psychotherapy that research has shown to have positive results helping people recover from the effects of trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and panic disorders. EMDR can be completed in fewer sessions than traditional psychotherapy, as it allows the brain to utilize its natural healing process in order to alleviate unwanted and challenging symptoms.

Over the past 25 years, millions of people have been empowered by EMDR and experienced the benefits of one-on-one counseling as they overcame their challenges associated with trauma, stress, anxiety, and depressive disorders.

How Does EMDR Work?

Traumatic events, anxiety disorders, and mood disorders can lead to blockages in the brain, thus affecting communication between its main systems which results in unwanted and negative symptoms. The brain’s natural process for sorting information involves communication between the amygdala (the alarm signal for stressful events), the hippocampus (which assists with learning, including memories about safety and danger), and the prefrontal cortex (which analyzes and controls behavior and emotion).

EMDR works by utilizing eye movements to remove blockages created by events which interrupt the brain’s natural communication system in order to assist in overcoming the negative effects created by them.
